Friday 12th Feb 2010 - Ballea Park
Crosshaven Seniors 3 Carrigaline Utd 0
Despite dominating the 1st half Crosshaven failed to score in the opening period on a very dead Carrigaline pitch. The 2nd half was a different story as Crosser stepped up the pace to score three unanswered goals. The first came on 55 minutes when Graham Foleys shot fell into the path of Brendan O'Connell who superbly volleyed home from 8 yards. Fifteen minutes later Carrigaline were down to ten men. Sam Tyrell controlled superbly in the box before rounding the keeper only to be upended by the same player. The referee, John Linehan, produced the red card immediately and awarded Crosshaven a penalty which Sam O'Regan converted. With five minutes remaining Luke Noonan put the icing on the cake when he lashed the ball home in the crowded penalty area via the crossbar. Buzz O'Connell was understandably delighted with the result as local derbys are never easy. He said "when we started to knock the ball around as we can we started to create space which ultimatley led to the goals but what can you say an excellent 3 points away from home".
The U13's produced the result of the season against Mallow this morning. Trailing 1-0 they produced the comeback to beat all comebacks eventually putting ten past their opponents including six from Anthony Wrenne to run out 10-1 winners. Goals from Anthony Wrenne (6), Cian Kingston (2), Michael O'Connell & the outstanding Jordan Fahy. Eoin O'Connor was excellent at the back in a super team performance.
Meanwhile the Juniors faced Ringmahon Rangers in the Beamish Stout Match of the Week and were well beaten on a 5-0 scoreline. The U11's away to Midleton went down on a similar scoreline.
Crofton Celtic 5 Crosshaven 2 - MSL Junior 1st - 13th Dec 2009
Despite leading twice at 1-0 & 2-1 in the first half the Juniors went down this morning away to Crofton. Alan Moorland had given Crosshaven the lead but they were pegged back before Sam O'Regan put Crosshaven back in front. The lack of a recognised keeper cost Crosshaven though as Robinson & John Dunphy were both unavailable. Crofton took their chances second half to put a flattering look on the scoreline but Crosshaven were dominant for long periods of the game and deserved to take at least a point.
Crosshaven 7 Bandon 2 - Sat 12th Dec 2009
Crosser bounced back from Thursday nights reversal at the hands of CIT to hand out a lesson of their own to Bandon. Two goals inside the opening 10 minutes from Steve Barry (West Ham) set the tone. The first goal a lob from 20 yards and the second when he just got to the ball ahead of the keeper to poke home. Bandon against the run of play pulled themselves level before 25 minutes was on the clock. This sparked Crosshaven back into life and further goals from Sam O'Regan following an excellent pass from Alan Sull and an Aidan Lehane header put Crosshaven firmly in the driving seat by half time. Second half goals from Lehane again, Beezer and a Steve Barry penalty to complete his hat-trick secured the points. Best wishes to the Bandon player injured late in the second half. All at Crosshaven AFC wish him a speedy recovery.
Crosshaven U12 Girls 3 Glounthane 0
Crosshaven managed to beat both the weather & Glounthane to move up to second in the League. The visitors arrived with just 8 players so a home victory was always likely on a horrible morning in Camden. Crosshaven nearly fell behind early on with the visitors twice going close but some good defending & goalkeeping kept Glounthane out. A goal from Ciara O'Keeffe settled the nerves and she added two more before the break to finish the game as a contest. The referee blew it up early in the second half as the three points send Crosser second. Glounthane to their credit played some great stuff especially keeper Alison Murphy, Erin Kand & Elana Fleming. Best for Crosser were Elaine Hoey, Tara Maher & Shauna McKenna.
Crosshaven U14 Boys 4 Macroom 3 - Monday 26th Oct
Crosshaven left it late to claim all three points on a rainy morning in Camden. Goals from Jordan Lee (2), Peter Jermyn & Jamie Byrne gave Crosshaven victory. The lads led 1-0 & 3-1 on different occassions but needed a goal in the last 5 minutes to claim the points. Great performances from Jordan Lee, Jordan Murphy & Kyran Cox.
Everton Utd 1 Crosshaven 2 - Sun 25th Oct 2009
At the fourth attempt the Juniors have recorded a League victory as two Dave Scannell goals saw Crosser leapfrog their opponents in the table. The game was played in CIT with manager John Duggan having the luxury of 19 players to choose from.
Crosshaven Seniors 3 Carrigaline Utd 1 - MSL 2nd Div - Sat 24th Oct 2009
Crosshaven enertained local rivals Carrigaline Utd in Camden in the Beamish Stout MSL 2nd Division. This was the first time in years that these two had met at this level with the both sides determined not to be upstaged by their neighbours. The wind nearly forced referee Pat Buckley to call the game off but with the sheltered second pitch available Buckley was happy to see the fixture proceed. The opening exchanges saw Carrigaline, playing with the gale force wind take the game to Crosshaven with John Harrington & McGovern in the middle pulling the strings. Craig Noonan in the Crosshaven goal is well used to the wind in Camden and was acting as a makeshift sweeper for most of the first half. Crosshaven's first chance on 14 minutes led to the first goal of the game when a cross from the left wing from Sam O'Regan was volleyed home superbly by Steve Barry from 8 yards. Two minutes later Ken Dennehy nearly had Carrig level but his header flew a yard over the bar. This near miss should have been a warning to Crosser but they didn't heed it as within sixty seconds Dennehy had Carrigaline level. Another left wing cross found Dennehy in acres of space and he dived to head home past Noonan for a deserved equaliser. The goal sparked Crosshaven back to life and they enjoyed some good posession despite the elements. On the half hour mark Crosshaven were back in front. Brendan O'Connell superbly controlled the ball on his chest twenty yards out before unleashing a volley that beat the keeper all ends up. The ball struck the left upright however and Steve Barry reacted quickest to head home to restore Crosshaven's advantage. Seconds before the break Carrigaline were nearly gifted a second equaliser when Ian Lynch underhit a back pass to Noonan. John Harrington had a chance to shoot first time but didn't take it and Lynch recovered to block. Graham Foley, on for the injured Luke Noonan nearly put the game beyond Carrigs reach a minute after the restart but his diving header was superbly tipped around the post following a Brendan O'Connell corner. On the hour mark Dennehy was denied superbly by Noonan's feet & from the resulting corner Carrigaline hit the crossbar and had another goal bound shot blocked. Steve Barry (65min) had a chance to seal a super hat trick but was denied by the Carrigaline keeper after being played in on goal by O'Connell. With 20 minutes remaining Crosser sealed the points. Sam Tyrell controlled a Foley long throw before going down in area for what looked like a stone wall penalty. While others appealed Brendan O'Connell reacted to the loose ball and fired in from six yards. The victory put Crosshaven top of the League as their nearest rivals Casement failed to play due to a waterlogged pitch. Both teams get a much deserved break from the league next week in the Intermediate Cup.
Crosshaven U16 Boys 2 Lyre 4 - Camden 18th Oct 09
Crosshaven crashed out of the National Cup at the first hurdle at home to Lyre of the West Cork League. Despite dominating the 1st half without much penetration Crosser found themselves 1-0 down at half time. Lyre went 2 up after the break but Ryan Foley hit back almost straight away after being set up by Colin O'Brien impressed throughout. Lyre restored their two goal cushion midway through the 2nd half before Colin Kiely made a stunning penalty save. Moments later Lyre made it four to seal victory. The tireless Gavin Murphy hit the crossbar before James Meade added a late consolation. Aaron O'Connor, Conor Cremin & Eoin Healy played well in a new look side that will take time to gel.
Lakewood 2 Crosshaven Seniors 4 - Sun Oct 18th
Crosshaven maintained their unbeaten start to the League season despite a lacklustre display away to Lakewood. Goals from Luke Noonan, John Barry (who was later wrongly sent off), Steve Barry (West Ham) & Alan O'Sullivan fired Crosshaven to victory. Crosser had John Barry red carded for an alleged elbow - even the player he was supposed to have elbowed & the Lakewood manager approached the referee in John's defence but John will now receive an automatic one game suspension & possibly more depending on the ref's report.
Crosshaven U14 Girls 4 Glounthane 5 - Saturday 17th October 09 - Camden
Crosshaven went one up ealry in this game through the outstanding Megan O'Keeffe but the visitors came back quickly to storm into a 3-1 lead. Crosshaven pulled one back before the break. Glounthane went 4-2 just after half time when the ball rebounded off the referee to a Glounthane player who was left with an open goal! Heads went down after that and Crosshaven conceded again. Two goals in quick sucsession got Crosser back in it at 5-4 but just as it looked like an equaliser was on the way the ref blew for full time. Scorers for Crosshaven were Megan O'Keeffe, Jenna O'Shea & Anna Reardon (2). Best for Crosshaven were Jessie Bushe, Megan O'Keeffe, Anna Reardon & Aoibhinn Kidney.
Riverstown 3 Crosshaven U13's 4 - Sunday 11th Oct 2009
Crosshaven staged a dramatic comeback in Riverstown this morning before finally laying claim to all three points. Trailing 2-0 early in the match Crosshaven looked dead and buried unitl they turned the game on its head to take a 3-2 lead. Riverstown pulled one back to level the game once more before Crosshaven pulled clear again at 4-3. It took an exceptional save from Stephen Curran to secure all three points when he denied Riverstown with his feet. Goalscorers for Crosshaven were Fionn Ross (2), Anthony Wrenne & Jacob O'Byrne.
Fermoy 3 Crosshaven Juniors 2 - Sunday 11th October 2009
A goal a piece from Graham Gill & Aidan Lehane wasn't enough to give Crosshaven their first League victory of the season as they went down by the odd goal in five away to Fermoy. The 10:45am kick off time didn't suit the lads who were missing several key players who were no doubt out the night before watching Ireland v Italy. Manager John Duggan was pleased with the performance but felt the team deserved at least a point.
Crosshaven 1 Casement Celtic 1 - MSL Senior 2nd Division - 10th Oct 2009
Early pace setters Crosshaven & Casement met in the Beamish Stout Munster Senior League 2nd Division in Camden on a glorious Saturday afternoon. Both sides had a 100% record going into the game, in fact Casement hadn't even conceded a goal in the league before yesterday. Crosshaven manager Buzz O'Connell had a major selection problem with several key players missing namely Gavin Roche, Sam O'Regan, Stephen Barry & Paddy O'Keeffe while Alan O'Sullivan still wasn't 100% right after a recent groin strain.
Casement did a lot of the early running with Keegan & Karl Caulfield causing Crosser some early problems without creating much. As the first half progressed the home team came more and more into the game. Graham Foley went close with a long range effort while Steven Barry should have scored when the Casement keeper miss controlled a back pass but Barry's shot on the turn went a foot wide of the post. The same keeper made amends moments later when he dived full stretch to turn a Brendan O'Connell shot around the post. Crosshaven centre half Emmett Canty had two shots cleared off the line before the break but at half time the game remained scoreless.
The second half started as the first half ended Steven Barry was played through on goal only to be denied by the feet of the Casement keeper. The visitors enjoyed a lot of possession in the second half but were getting no change from Ian Lynch at centre back. A mazy run from Caulfield with 20 minutes remaining looked like it could end up with a goal but for another timely challenge from Lynch who hurt himself in the process. With ten minutes to go Lynch finally succumbed to injury and was forced to leave the play, two minutes later Casement were in front. A cross from the right found Dave O'Keeffe unmarked in the area and he looped a beautiful header over Craig Noonan in the seasiders goal to spark wild scenes of celebration on the line. Crosshaven though felt they deserved at least a draw from the game and got their reward with just a minute on the clock. A hopeful ball into area was wonderfully controlled by substitute Alan O'Sullivan who turned and hit a left foot shot through a forrest of legs and past the keeper into the bottom corner of the net. Before either side had chance to snatch a winner the ref ended the contest with a draw probably the right result.
Crosshaven U12 Girls 0 Inishvilla 6 - Sat 10th Oct 2009
Crosshaven knew it was going to be a long Saturday morning when they had just 11 players for this clash with Inishvilla. Four Senior players were missing and this was to prove the major difference between the sides. Ashling Couch once again had a great game sa did Aiobhinn Kidney, Katie Connolly & Tara Maher.
Douglas Hall 6 Crosshaven U14 Girls 0 - Sunday 4th Oct 2009
Despite a promising start to the game the U14 Girls were eventually over ran by Douglas Hall. Crosshaven were without the inspirational Katy Reardon and she proved to be a big loss. Credit must go to Megan O'Keeffe & Jessie Bushe who ran themselves into the ground. Crosshaven also had good performances from Rebecca Fitzpatrick, Jenna O'Shea & Anna Reardon.
Crosshaven U12s 3 Park Utd 4 - League - Camden 4th Oct 09
A cracker of a game in Camden saw the U12s beaten by the only goal in the second half. The first 40 minutes of play produced 6 goals. Fionn Murphy opened the scoring firing high into the roof of the net from the edge of the area. In fact Crosshaven were to take the lead on three seperate occassions in the 1st half only to see Park hit back almost immeadiately. Colm O'Reilly scored Crosshaven's second, a 30 yard rocket that the keeper probably should have done better with. Louis O'Shea got the third an excellent finish in the area from 8 yards. The winning goal came for Park just ten minutes into the second half and although Crosshaven pushed hard for an equaliser it didn't materialise.
Crosshaven 1 Avondale Utd 2 - Munster Senior Cup - 3rd Oct 2009 Camden
Two first half strikes from David Spratt were enough to send Avondale through to the next round of the Munster Senior Cup. The Premier Division Champions can count themselves very lucky after just about overcoming a spirited display from 2nd Division Crosshaven in Camden on Saturday afternoon. Both sides were missing a few players with Crosshaven missing Alan O'Sullivan with a groin strain and Avondale were without three first team regulars who were involved in the Michael Ward tournament. The opening couple of minutes saw little action as Crossers Steve Barry was treated for a head injury that was later to force him off. The best chance of the early exchanges came about ten minutes in when the seasiders Sam O'Regan headed across the box to Brendan O'Connell but his tame effort was easily dealt with by Dave O'Keeffe in goal. Two minutes later the visitors grabbed the lead. A cross from the right wing found Spratt who turned superbly to hammer home from ten yards to give the visitors the lead with their first attack. Despite going a goal behind Crosshaven to their credit didn't get flustered & kept plugging away. With little under twenty minutes to the break the home team were level. Crosshaven's Brendan O'Connell was floored just outside the box and up stepped midfielder Graham Foley to unleash a thunderbolt free kick which crashed into the back of the net via the upright. Five muntes later and Avondale were back in front. A hopeful through ball was picked up by Spratt who rounded Crosshaven keeper Craig Noonan to slide the ball home from a tight angle. The second half began with two attacks from Avondale who were trying to kill off the underdogs but Noonan in the Crosshaven goal was having none of it as he followed up a save from Marco Machedo with a fine double stop from Spratt. That was the last of Avondale as an attacking force in the second half as Luke Noonan & Foley in midfield for Crosser grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. Sam O'Regan came close to equalising but his towering header from Gavin Roche's corner flew a yard over. O'Keeffe then saved well from O'Connell before Foley had a free kick blocked before firing the rebound wide of the target. O'Keeffe was forced off for Avondale with 15 minutes remaining after suffering a shoulder injury saving from O'Regan. He was replaced in the Avondale goal by the experienced Brendan O'Connell. Despite dominating posession a visibly tiring Crosshaven were now having trouble getting past the visitors rearguard who had Triggs in particular in super form. At the final whistle the Premier Champions looked relieved at overcoming this potential banana skin and they will go on to face Cobh Ramblers in the next round.
Crosshaven Juniors 0 Glasheen 3 - Camden 27th Sept 2009
Two goals in three minutes before half time condemned Crosser to their second defeat of the League campaign. Crosshaven dominated for long periods of the game but lacked any spark up front. Glasheens third goal came with 5 minutes to go after Crosshaven had committed a few extra men forward. A couple of plus points, one the form of Ian O'Connell who appeared as a second half sub and secondly the growing partnership of Billy Coniry & Aidan Lehane at centre back.
Kevin Barry Cup Final - Turners Cross 26th Sept
Crosshaven Ladies can have no complaints after going down to Ballinhassig in the Final of the Kevin Barry Cup at Turners Cross. Only for keeper Shannon Daems Crosser could easily have been a few goals down inside the opening 5 minutes. Despite Ballinhassig dominating, the best chance of the half fell to Crosshavens Julie-Anne Kingston but her shot was superbly saved. With just two minutes to half time Ballinhassig took the lead when a low daisy cutter somehow eluded Daems. The second half started with a glorious chance for Crosser to equalise but Michelle O'Connell blazed over from 8 yards when it looked easier to score. Within minutes Ballinhassig were two up and from here took over running out easy 6-0 winners. All in all, I'm sure the team would have settled for a League Championship & Cup Final at the start of the season. A big thanks to team sponsors Moonduster Inn and Colman Walsh of CB Sports Supplies & Castlepoint Boatyard who sponsored training tops for the team.
Crosshaven 3 Garryduff 2 - MSL Senior 2nd Divison - 26th Sept 2009
The Senior Team maintained their encouraging start to the 2009/2010 season with a comfortable win over Garryduff. A Steve Barry rocket set Crosshaven on their way early in the 1st half and when Ian Harrington made it 2-0 early in the second half the game looked over. With 15 minutes remaining the visitors pulled one back but Sam O'Regan restored the two goal cushion virtually from the kick off. The visitors did score in stoppage time to put the wind up Crosshaven but it proved too little too late.
Douglas Hall 0 Crosshaven U12 Girls 1 - Moneygourney 26th Sept 2009
The U12 Girls got their season underway with a superb away victory against Douglas Hall. From start to finish this was a very exciting game with both defences on top. Anna Reardon yet again had a superb game along with Katie Connolly, Ashling Couch, Rebecca Fitzpatrick & Aoibhinn Kidney. It was late in the second half when Crosser got the winner, Ciara O'Keeffe broke through the home defence before superbly firing past the keeper to earn a hard fought victory. All 14 girls played their part in the win, hopefully first of many.
Waterloo 2 Crosshaven 7 - U13 Cup 26th Sept 2009
The usual suspects were in great form for Crosser as they cruised past Waterloo in the U13 Cuo yesterday. Wrennie with 4, Cian Kingston got 2 while Fionn Ross completed the scoring in a one sided encounter.
Sunday 13th September 2009 - Glasheen Park
The Seniors started the 2009/2010 season by frightening the life out of the management team with a 5-4 victory away to Glasheen on Sunday morning. Crosshaven started the game without Steve Barry (holidays), Emmett Canty (inj) & Luke Noonan suspended and then found themselves 2-0 down inside 25 minutes. Sam Tyrell started the fightback with a volley from a Graham Foley throw. Sam O'Regan (pictured) scored the first of his three from the spot before John Barry pounced to toe home inside the area to give Crosshaven a 3-2 lead. The second half saw Crosshaven push on and pretty soon they were completely in the driving seat. Sam O'Regan's shot took a slight deflection before finding the back of the net before he completed his hat-trick once again from the penalty spot to make it 5-2. As the game approached the final ten minutes a speculative long range effort caught Keeper John Dunphy out and within minutes Glasheen were back in the game with another goal from the edge of the area. Crosshaven held on though and left Glasheen Park with all three points.
Sunday 13th September 2009 - Camden
Crosshaven 4 Temple Utd 5
The second 9 goal game of the day involving a Crosshaven side saw the U11s come out on the wrong side of the 5-4 scoreline. An excellent team performance however with very little to choose between the two teams. Crosser trailed 4-3 at half time with 1st half goals coming from Jonathan Wren (2) & Eric Allen while Tadgh Shanahan got on the scoresheet in the 2nd half.
Camden 12th Sept 2009
This Beamish Stout Junior 1st Divison match turned out to be the tale of the two John Duggan's with the CIT version coming away the happier having scored the winner two minutes into the stoppage time. The other John Duggan, Crosshaven manager has to wonder how his team didn't claim at least a point from this entertaining clash in Camden. It took twenty minutes for this game to spark into life when from virtually the first meaningful attack of the game Crosshaven had the lead. Dave McCarthy picking his spot from 8 yards to give Rob Lydon in the students goal no chance. CIT stopper Lydon was called into action ten minutes later when he made a super save with his legs when Dave Scannell was played through on goal. CIT had only one chance of note in the opening period but Robinson Elejade in the home goal watched as the shot flew high and wide. The second half was a different story with Crosshaven penned into their own half for long periods. Eric Marah had a glorious opportunity to equalise ten minutes into the second period but he blazed over with only the keeper to beat. Some last ditch defending by the excellent combination of Aidan Lehane & Billy Coniry then denied the students before Wesley Duggan missed another great chance to level. Andrew Crowley then had a chance to extend Crossers lead but he shot wide from a tight angle and boy did Crosshaven pay for that miss as within 30 seconds CIT were level. A wonderful through ball found Wes Duggan who lifted the ball over Robinson Elejade and into the back of the net. Crosshaven's Scannell missed another chance in a one on one with Lydon before the seasiders Andrew Crowley missed the chance of the game when he rounded the keeper but somehow managing to put the ball over the bar. Two minutes into stoppage time up came John Duggan for the students to head home a corner to take all three points back to Bishopstown and break his namesakes heart. Final Score Crosshaven 1-2 CIT
Rockmount 3 Crosshaven 1 - Whitechurch, 30th Aug 2009
Frank Thompsons side left Whitchurch Sunday morning with no points in the bag despite dominating the game from start to finish. In fact at half time Crosshaven were a goal to the good after Jack Cox had given them a deserved lead after 25 minutes. Crosser were made to pay for missing a glut of chances in either half while Rockmount scored on virtually their only three attacks of the game. Crosshaven had good performances from Peter O'Keeffe, Josh Hogan & Brian O'Connor.
Crosshaven 1 Passage Utd 1 - Camden, 30th Aug 2009
A Fionn Ross goal 5 minutes into the second half earned Crosshaven a share of the spoils on a horrible morning in Camden. Passage had taken an early lead in the 1st half but the goal came against the run of play as Crosshaven had been the dominant team. Anthony Wrenne had a stone-wall penalty clain turned down in the second half as Passage continued to frustrate Crosshaven who pushed hard for a winner. At the final whistle both teams were glad to get in out of the rain but Crosshaven probably did enough to shade the game. Good performances from Jacob O'Byrne, Fionn Ross, Steve Curran & Cian Kingston.
Crosshaven 6 Ballinhassig 1
Crosshaven announced their return to the Senior ranks in some style as they destroyed Ballinhassig in Camden on Saturday afternoon. The home side got off to the best possible start when Brendan O'Connell fired them into an early lead. O'Connell picking the ball up on the edge of the area before beating his man and firing past the keeper. Within minutes Ballinhassig restored parity through Christy O'Brien when the home defence failed to clear a harmless cross O'Brien steered home from six yards. Steve Barry restored the seasiders advantage when he superbly volleyed home an O'Connell cross ten minutes before the interval. If Crosser had been impressive in the 1st half they became impossible to live with in the second period. Just five minutes into the second half Crosser were awarded a penalty and up stepped Sam O'Regan to score his first ever goal for the club. Crosshaven continued to batter the visitors goal and were rewarded once more when Alan O'Sullivan played a beautiful one-two with Sam Tyrell who made no mistake from close range. Another O'Regan penalty and a deserved late goal for O'Sullivan put the gloss on an excellent performance. Manager Buzz O'Connell praised the effort the lads put in over a very long pre-season and was delighted with the performance. Crosshaven's other group opponents are Blarney Utd who face Ballinhassig this Thursday night.
News came through from Limerick early this morning that Munster are the 2009 Gaynor Cup Champions after a 2-0 victory in this mornings final with both goals coming from Lauren Murphy. Crosshaven had three girls on the team, Emily Phelan. Megan O'Keeffe & Gillian Crowley and they all featured in all four games in the tournament! Speaking to Marie O'Keeffe this morning she told me that celebrations were incerdible and that the girls all contributed to Munster's success. Indeed Marie herself deserves a lot of credit for the work she puts into the schoolgirls along with Owen Dunlea & Niall O'Regan and they can each take a lot of credit for the success the girls are having.

Ireland finish 4th
News has just reached us that Ireland (Cork) have lost their 3rd/4th place playoff with Greece (Athens) on penalties after extra time. The girls are devastated after playing over 100 minutes in temperatures exceeding 35 degrees. The Irish team can hold their heads high as they came within a whisker of getting to the Final. We wish Savanna & Gillian a safe trip home and I'm sure they'll get a hero's welcome when they return to Cork.
Heartbreak in Greece
This mornings semi-final in Athens played at 9am local time (7pm here) finished in a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Kitchner of Canada. A problem Ireland have had for the majority of the tournament resurfaced as the girls failed to score for the 4th game in a row despite dominating. The girls still have the bronze medal to play for at 11am local time (9pm) and hopefully they'll do the business. Report to follow...........
Irish Team March On To Semis
News has come through that the Irish (Cork) team have indeed qualified for the semi-finals!! Both Gillian & Savanna are thrilled and the 9am kick off tomorrow will suit the Irish team as it should be a bit cooler. The only problem is that the girls must play Canadian Team Kitchner again. The girls finished 3rd after the group stages and hopefully both Savanna & Gillian will fire the team into the final which is due to played at 11am tomorrow.
Irish Team Earn Draw
The fourthgame in Group A at the International Childrens Games in Athens between Cork, Ireland & Athens, Greece was played this morning in the searing heat with temperatures well into the 30's. The game finished scoreless, a result which could see Ireland progress to the semi-finals depending on results from the other games. Savanna Dunlea played a major part in the Irish team while Gillian Crowley had to sit the game out due to a heat related illness. Gillian however is expected to be back for the next game should Ireland progress. As soon as we here the other results it will be updated here.
Canada get better of tired Irish
The Third game in Group A at the International Childrens Games in Athens between Cork, Ireland & Kitchner of Canada finished in a 2-0 victory for Canadians. This was Irelands third game in 24hrs in intense heat and some of the girls really struggled. The result leaves Ireland needing a victory in this mornings clash with the host city Athens. As soon as we get any news we'll post it here. So fingers crossed and hopefully they'll get a drop of rain in Greece this morning! Thanks to Mary & Anne for the updates.
Ireland & USA Share the Spoils
The second game in Group A at the International Childrens Games in Athens between Cork, Ireland & Los Gatos, USA has finished in a 0-0 draw. The heat in Athens is incredible with both Gillian and Savannah reporting difficulties in breathing even while training! The Irish Camp have considered this mornings result as encouraging especially when you consider that they were up late last night for the opening ceremony. This evening at 6:30pm the girls play again against Kitchner of Canada.

Great news from Irelands opening game at the International Childrens Games in Athens. Not only did Cork who are representing Ireland win their opener 1-0 against Heraklio (Greece), but both Crosshaven girls Gillian Crowley & Savanna Dunlea played with Savannah netting the all important winning goal. Earlier reports from an unamed source had credited the goal to Gillian but we can now confirm for definite that it was Savannah. Tomorrow the girls face Los Gatos (USA) followed by Kitchner (Canada) and Athens (Greece) on Friday.
Irish Examiner 0 Crosshaven Ladies 1
The fact that Crosshaven have played 3 games in 7 days seemed to catch up on them last night when they stumbled to victory against a side they had beaten 6-0 just a week previous. Michelle O'Connell was the hero on the night with her first goal of the season which kept Crosshaven's unbeaten League/Cup run going.
Crosshaven 3 Watergrasshill 2
Crosshaven pulled off one of the biggest shocks so far this season with a stunning victory over Premier side Watergrasshill in Camden last night. First half goals from Deirdre Green & Julie-anne Kingston gave Crosser a 2-1 interval lead and when Dee Green scored the 3rd in the second half Crosshaven held out to top their group in the Cup with 3 wins from 3.
Irish Examiner 0 Crosshaven 6 - Kevin Barry Cup
The Ladies good run of form continued with a six nil drubbing of the Irish Examiner in Moneygourney last night. All the goals came in the second half which has been a strange feature of Crosshaven's games this year! Karen O'Sullivan scored twice while Majella McCarthy, Julie-anne Kingston, Sharon Murphy & Dee Green got a goal a piece. Trish Harrington returning had a solid game as did both Noreen & Trish O'Callaghan as Crosser crusied over the finishing line.
Sunday 7th June 2009
Crosshaven had four girls in action over the weekend with representative teams. Megan O'Keeffe & Emily Phelan both played for the South Munster Gaynor Cup team against North Munster in a game that they won easily on a 5-1 scoreline. The Crosshaven girls notched four of the five goals with Megan in lethal form scoriing a hat-trick while Emily put the gloss on an excellent performance with the final goal of the game. Meanwhile Savannah Dunlea & Jessie Bushe were representing the club with the Cork Winter Training Squad in two friendly matches. They defeated Limerick 2-1 in the first game with Jessie scoring a great goal in the 2nd half. In the second game they played North Munster and were unlucky to go down 1-0. Both girls played really well in what was a hectic weekend all round! Well done to all four who once again did the club proud!
June 7th 2009
Johnny Durcan was mobbed by his team mates when his late strike snatched a draw for Crosshaven U9's on Sunday evening. Free-scoring Jonathan O'Regan had given Crosshaven an early lead but in a pulsating game the lads found them 2-1 down with just seconds remaining until a rocket from Johnny stole a point a Crosser! Great team performance all round.
Lakewood 2 Crosshaven U9's 3
Harry Durcan opened the scoring in an absolute thriller last night as Crosshaven just about saw off the challenge of Lakewood. Jonathan O'Regan scored Crosshaven's other two goals in a pulsating encounter.
Crosshaven Ladies 1 Riverstown 0
A Majella McCarthy header just five minutes from time gave Crosshaven their fourth win in as many games in Camden tonight. A wonderful cross from sweeper Aoife Fitzgerald was met powerfully by McCarthy's head 8 yards out giving the visiting keeper no chance. Crosshaven's previous three victories had all come in the League but this victory in Pool 'A' of the Kevin Barry Cup will give managers Jason McGrath/Aidan Coniry the most pleasure as it came against 1st Division opposition.
Crosshaven Ladies 3 Pfizers 0
For long periods of last nights game you'd wonder whether the Ladies team wanted to score at all as they missed chance after chance. Deirdre Green who failed to touch home from close range & Sharon Murphy had glorious opportunities to give Crosshaven a deserved lead but failed to convert. Shannon Daenes in goal was a virtual spectator but anything she had to do was done well. The second half was heading the same way as the first but with twenty minutes remaining Crosshaven finally got the breakthrough. Player of the game Trish Harrington lashing home from the edge of the area past the stranded keeper. Julie-Ann Kingston went close to doubling the lead but her shot rattled the crossbar before being cleared to safety. Crosshaven did eventually double there lead when Karen O'Sullivan was taken down in the area up stepped Majella McCarthy to make no mistake from the spot. Karen O'Sullivan hit the upright minutes later before Sharon Murphy made it three when her shot was defelected past the helpless Pfizer's keeper.
Everton 3 Crosshaven Juniors 2
Crosshaven threw away a two goal half time lead in their final league game of the season away to Everton last night. Jonathan Mulcahy & Kieran Doran had given Crosshaven a first half cushion but both sides had nothing to play for as the season came to a close and when Crosshaven became complacent in the second period Everton took advantage. As things stand Crosshaven look to have finished in either 5/6th position in the League.
Lakewood 4 Crosshaven U14 Girls 2
A hat-trick from Rebecca Kearney for Lakewood put paid to Crosshaven's hopes of finishing the season with a victory. Lakewood were 2-0 up at the break and just minutes into the second period stretched that lead to 3-0 through Alanna Murphy. Just as Crosshaven looked dead and buried Megan O'Keeffe pulled a goal back to give them a glimmer of hope but Kearney but any thoughts of a comeback to bed when she completed her hat-trick. Savannah Dunlea scored the goal of the game direct from a corner while Rachel Long Stephanie O'Brien & Emily Phelan played well for Crosser.
Ringmahon Rangers 2 Crosshaven U11's 5
The U11 side finish off their season with three games in six days with last nights trip to Mahon being the first of those. Managers' John O'Donovan & Declan Twohig were looking for maximum points from the 3 games and they got off to the best possible start last night with a 5 star performance. Goals from Fionn Murphy, Shane Bushe, Mark Griffin, Fionn O'Connor & Donnacha Desmond made it a very fruitful night in front of a large travelling crowd. Monday night the lads are away to Strand Utd.
Lakewood 1 Crosshaven U10's 5 - 10th May 2009
Away from home against Lakewood is always a difficult assignment but Frank Thompson's U10's passed this particular test with flying colours. Goals from Brian Murphy (2), Ben McKenna, Josh Hogan & Oisin Conway gave Crosshaven a very comfortable victory.
Crosshaven U10's 6 Greenwood 2
Just four days after their victory over Lakewood the U10's were back in action. This time they faced Togher side Greenwood on a dirty night in Camden. Once again the Crosshaven lads rose to the occasion findind the net no fewer than six times. Richard Thompson opened Crosshaven's account, followed by a double from Jack Kent. Peter O'Keeffe netted next quickly followed by Josh Hogan with his second goal in as many games. Brian Murphy rounded off Crosshavens scoring exploites to seal another excellent win.
Crosshaven U14 Girls 4 Buttevant 1
Four different scorers for Crosshaven on the night with Megan O'Keeffe, Savannah Dunlea, Stacey McKenna & Katy Reardon all on target for Crosser in dreadful conditions in Camden. Playing on the bottom pitch the girls had a small bit of shelter and they were worthy winners.
Crosshaven Ladies 3 Fusion 1
The Ladies team made it two wins from two last night in Camden but they left it late. A howling gale and heavy drizzle made life difficult for both teams. Fusion played with the wind for the opening period and did take the lead before half time somewhat against the run of play as earlier in the half Majella McCarthy & Sharon Murphy both missed good chances. The second half introduction of Julie Anne Kingston turned the game on its head as Crosshaven dominated proceedings. Julie Anne equalised twenty minutes into the second half but despite Crosshaven peppering the goal they didn't manage to score again until the final couple of minutes. Sharon Murphy made ammends for her ealry miss when she scored from close range and in the dying seconds Majella McCarthy made sure of the points with a well taken goal.
Crosshaven Juniors 2 Brooklodge 3
Goals from Kieran Doran & Jonathan Mul weren't enough to stop Crossshaven going down to Brooklodge in Riverstown last night.
Inishvilla 1 Crosshaven U15s 3
Two wonderful goals from Kieran Doran and another excellent finish from Tomas O'Donovan gave Crosshaven the points in Inishannon on Monday morning. Victory moves Crosshaven to within a couple of points of safety and with two games in the coming week theie fate is now in their own hands.
Tramore Ath 1 Crosshaven U13s 1
Jordan Murphy was the Crosshaven hero as they took a point off a much fancied Tramore side Monday morning. Murphy who was on target this week for the U14s as well scored a wonderful goal to ensure Crosser took something from the game.
Crosshaven Juniors 3 College Corinthians 3
Crosshaven ended Corinthians faint title hopes by taking a point in Camden this afternoon in a six goal thriller. Scorers for Crosshaven were John Duggan, Aidan Bermingham (penalty) & the returning Alan Moorland.
Ballincollig 0 Crosshaven U12 Boys 2
Needing just a point to claim the League title Crosshaven were confident going into the game. Nerves seemed to get the better of them as they failed to settle in a scrappy first half. Anthony Wrenne wasted the best chance of the half when he shot straight at the keeper when through on goal. Crosshaven suffered a major blow just before the break when keeper Shane Bushe went off injured. 0-0 at half time Crosshaven re-grouped and settled down. The large crowd could sense that a goal was on the way and Fionn Ross duly obliged with a stunning left foot strike. With just minutes to go Anthony Wrenne made sure the title was coming home to Crosshaven when he converted from close range. The celebrations at the final whistle were comical but well deserved. The team scored an incredible 72 goals during the season and were worthy Champions. Congratulations to all the squad, the managers John O'Kelly, Eddie Kingston & Steve Kiely. A special thank you too team sponsors Kiely Electrical and all those who travelled to support the team. A trip to McDonalds on the way home was enjoyed by all and I'm sure the team woke the whole of Crosshaven up when they blew their horns on their return to the village.
Crosshaven U9s 2 Lakewood 5
Despite the scoreline Crosshaven dominated for long periods of the game but just failed to take their chances. Goals came from Adam Kent & an absolute thunderbolt from the halfway line from Harry Durcan.
Crosshaven U14 Boys 2 Corinthians 4
With just ten minutes remaining Crosshaveb were level at 2-2 after trailing 2-0 for seventy minutes. The introduction of Peter Jermyn at half time sparked the homeside into life and he pulled a goal back. Davy Reardon in front of a sizeable fan club levelled matters finishing from close range. At this point Crosshaven had all the momentum but Corinthians scored direct from a free kick and two minutes later scored again to leave with the points.
Crosshaven U11 Boys 1 Leeside 3
A Fionn Murphy penalty was all that Crosshaven had to show from Sunday mornings clash with Leeside in Camden. Manager John O'Donovan to his credit was there on time after attending the Dinner Dance the night where he was still singing at 3am!
Crosshaven U15 Boys 1 Ringmahon Rangers 1
A thunderbolt from Jordan Murphy was enough to give Crosshaven a share of the points in Camden. Davy Reardon in goal was once again superb but Crosshaven can consider themselves unlucky not to have claimed all 3 points when they rattled the crossbar with just a minute left.
John Aldridge went down a storm at this years Annual Dinner Dance signing autographs, posing for pictures and giving a fantastic after dinner speech. MC John McHale (Evening Echo) was superb on the night ensuring that the event ran smoothly. The 150 strong crowd then danced the night away to sounds of DJ Trevor Fitz who did a tremendous job keeping everyone out on the dance floor for the entire night. The event was also attended by Club President Eileen Aherne, Simon Coveney TD, Cllr Seamus McGrath, Cllr John Collins, Pat Quinn of the Munster Senior League, Cork City's Denis Behan & Greg O'Halloran as well as Hall Of Fame inductees: Denis Collins, Gordon Forsythe, Mick Murphy & Bobby Buckley. Crosshaven Ladies 5 Village Utd 3
The Ladies team started their league campaign with a deserved victory over Village in Camden last night. Two goals from Julie Anne Kingston, one a piece from Majella McCarthy & Karen O'Sullivan plus an OG. Some sloppy defending towards the end saw Village come back into the game but overall Crosshaven were far and away the better side.
Crosshaven U12's Boys' 5 Riverstown 0
The U12's are now just one win away from League honours folllowing an easy 5-0 victory away to Riverstown. The usual suspects got the goals, Fionn Ross (2), Anthony Wrenne (2) & Cian Kingston. All in all it was an excellent performance despite the lads being a bit nervous early on. The remaining game of the season is away to Ballincollig, date to follow.
Crosshaven Juniors 4 Fermoy 4
The Juniors squandered a 3-1 lead and a 4-3 lead before eventually settling for a point at home to Fermoy. Veteran Aidan Bermingham equalised for Crosshaven after they had fallen behind early on. Paddy O'Brien added a second before Bermingham scored his second from the penalty spot to give Crosshaven a 3-1 lead at half time. Fermoy stormed back to level the game before a Brendan O'Connell header put Crosser back in front. Fermoy hit back though with just five minutes remaining to claim a point.

The 9s gave themselves a mountain to climb falling four goals behind before a late comeback frightened the life out of B'hassig but the lads ran out of time. Jonathan O'Regan and Evan O'Hea scored while Crosser had fine performances from Billy Duane, Cian Long & Jonathan Wrenne.
Crosshaven U15 Boys 4 Carrigaline Utd 2
Crosshaven strike pairing of Kieran Doran & Tomas O'Donovan combined to put Carrigaline to the sword in Shanbally last night. Doran scored a stunning hat-trick with TOD adding the 4th to shock the home side.Niall Griffin in midfield had a stormer while Aaron O'Connor, Conor Cremin & Conor Lyden all played well.
Crosshaven Juniors 0 Tramore Ath 1
An away fixture against runaway league leaders Tramore was always going to be difficult but Manager Buzz O'Connell felt the scoreline didn't reflect the game at all with Crosshaven dominant for a large part of the game. Dave Nagle in goal was outstanding for Crosshaven on the night.
Crosshaven Ladies 1 Cobh Ramblers 7
Playing against a team two divisions higher was always going to be a tough ask but Crosshaven gave a good showing of themselves and even managed to create a small bit of history with two sets of twins on the pitch at the same time! Sharon Murphy scored the Crosshaven goal.
Crosshaven U14 Boys 0 Corinthians 4
This game was always going to tough but when Crosshaven went down to 10 men after Daniel Higgins was needlessly red carded the flood gates opened. Crosshaven eventually going down by four goals.
Crosshaven U15 Boys 1 Castleview 2
A stunning strike from Kieran Doran wasn't enough as Crosshaven went down 2-1 at home to League leaders Castleview in Camden Sunday morning. Crosshaven took the lead when Doran turned on the edge of the area and volleyed an unstopable goal past the helpless keeper. Castleview went in on level terms with a simple tap in 5 mins before the break. The second half was anyones game. Crosshaven were denied a blatant penalty when Doran was held in the area, the ref had the whistle in his mouth but changed his mind at the last second. Davy Reardon in goal at the other end was in top form producing one top class save to deny Castleview. The winner for the visitors came three minutes into stoppage time in a game where a draw would have been about right. Crosshaven had good performances from James Meade, Dave Meade, Niall Griffin, T.O'D & man of the match Dave Reardon.
Crosshaven U13 Boys 0 Youghal Utd 5
Having to travel away Easter Sunday morning is always a hassle but to have to go to Youghal made life difficult for the U13's. Missing a few players Crosshaven never got going and were 4-0 down at the break. The team improved big time second half but Youghal were comfortable winners.
Crosshaven Juniors 2 Cobh Wanderers 3
Despite dominating long periods of the game the Juniors bowed out of the John Hayes Cup against seaside neighbours Cobh in a great game this afternoon. Cobh lead thanks to an og two minutes before half time. A Dave Condon header restored parity only for Cobh to catch Crosshaven on the break to restore their advantage. Paddy O'Keeffe equalised for Crosser with a powerful volley. But once again Crosshaven were caught out with a long ball down the middle to trail 3-2. Crosshaven lost Luke Noonan with bad injury before the end of the game and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Crosshaven U14 Girls 2 Wilton United 2
Crosshaven came from behind twice to snatch a draw against Wilton in Camden on Saturday afternoon. Wilton hadn't drawn or lost a game in 3 years before this game and looked to be taking the points until Savannah Dunlea blasted home a late free kick to earn Crossahven a deserved point. Wilton took an early 1st half lead which they held till half time, Megan O'Keeffe going closest for Crosshaven in the opening period only to see her shot rattle the crossbar. She made amends early in the second half with a well taken finish only for Wilton to regain the lead with 10 minutes to go. Then cue Savannah who made sure Crosser were taking something from this game.
Crosshaven U7's 2 Midleton 3
A huge crowd in Camden saw a thrilling game that was won by Midleton in the dying minutes. Crosshaven took an deserved early lead in the first third through Ronan Lawlor only for Midleton to score twice in the second third. Crosshaven levelled things up in the final period with an excellent goal & celebration from Billy O'Connell only for Midleton to snatch a last gasp winner. Best for Crosshaven were goal scorers Ronan & Billy while Tony, Conrad, Jack Young, Dara O'Connell, Craig O'Halloran, Finbarr Kidney & Darragh Cogan played well. Special thanks to Greg O'Halloran who refereed.
Crosshaven U11 Boys 2 Castleview 2
Goals from Thomas Rooney (distant relation of Wayne!) & Fionn Murphy gave Crosshaven a great point away to Castleview at lunchtime on Saturday. The point was earned thanks to a great team display but also through a man of the match performance from Kieran Twohig in goal.
Crosshaven U9 Boys 4 Ringmahon Rangers 3
A stunning hat trick from Evan O'Hea and another from Jonathan O'Regan gave Crosshaven the points in a tough encounter away in Mahon this evening.
Crosshaven U10s 4 Lakewood 1 - Superman Kent does it Again!
Jack Kent & Eric Allen were the stars of Crosshaven's victory over Lakewood in Camden this evening scoring two goals each for Frank Thompson's team. In fact it brings Jack Kent's total to 5 goals in 2 games following his hat-trick at the weekend. Maybe we should start calling him Clark Kent!! Played in glorious sunshine in Camden Crosser never looked in danger in what was an excellent team performance. Special mention to referee Stephen Kiely who did a great job.
Crosshaven Ladies 0 Douglas Hall 2
The Ladies team warmed up for the new season with an encouraging display against the Hall in Camden. Crosshaven conceded twice in the opening period but completely dominated the second half and should consider themselves unlucky not to have at least secured a draw.
Crosshaven Juniors 3 Glasheen 1 - Robinson Hits a Brace
Robinson Elejade was once again the Crosshaven hero scoring two goals as Crosshaven took the points at home to Glasheen. Brendan O'Connell who had hit the crossbar early in the first half made the points secure with the third goal.
Crosshaven Girls u12 0 Ballincollig 0 - Stalemate in Ballincollig
Although nil all doesn't sound like it this was a very exciting game indeed. A draw however was probably a fair reflection on the game as both teams performed really well.Eva O'Callaghan for Crosshaven was the star of the game thwarting Ballincollig on numerous occasions with her no nonsense defending. Despite missing a good few players Crosshaven played really well and had great performances from Aoife Bland, Maille Cronin and Rebecca Fitzpatrick in goal.
Crosshaven U9s 4 Blarney 6 - Crosshaven on losing side in 10 Goal Thriller
A highly entertaining game with Crosshaven coming out on the wrong side of a 10 goal contest. Jonathan O'Regan scored while Jonathan Wrenne got 2. Crosshaven's fourth was an o.g. This game could have went either way but despite the defeat it was a good opening performance.
Crosshaven u12 Boys 11 Ballincollig 0 - Crosshaven Put One Hand On The Title
The U12s are still 6 points clear at the top of the league with a trouncing of Ballincollig in Camden. Scorers on the day were the usual suspects of Anthony Wrenne (4), Cian Kingston (3), Fionn Ross (2), Timmy O'Keeffe with a well taken strike and finally goal of the game from Colm O'Reilly, a superb strike from 25 yards that flew into the roof of the net. On this form its very hard to see where Crosshaven could possibly drop points.
Crosshaven U7s 11 St Marys 0 - Eleven Heaven For Buzz's Boys
The U7s played their first competive game of the season against St Marys and came away with all the points from a one sided game. Scorers to follow later from Buzz.

The U8s made light work of their opponents putting a cricket score past Evergreen. No scorers received yet. Probably too many to text in!!
Crosshaven U10s 4 Wilton 0 - Kent the Hat-Trick Hero
The U10s produced a great display away to Wilton to claim the points from their opening game of the season. Jack Kent was the main man scoring a super hat-trick while Brian Murphy was the other goalscorer in an excellent team showing.
Crosshaven Ladies 0 Carrigaline Utd 2 - Friendly
Manager Jason McGrath was pleased with his sides performance despite going down to two late Carrigaline goals in Camden. A friendly against Premier side Carrigaline in your first game was always going to be tough but Crosshaven with a squad of 24 proved more than able. It wasn't till late in the game when McGrath and his Assistant Aidan Coniry rang the changes that Carriglaine took over. Crosshaven had good performances on the night from Shirley Curran, Julie-Anne Kingston, Majella McCarthy & Fiona Geary. Special Thanks to Jody Drennan of the Moonduster Inn who is this years team sponsor.
Crosshaven Juniors 3 Ringmahon Rangers 1
Early goals from Cian Keegan & Luke Noonan set Crosshaven on their way to a fifth straight League win in Camden tonight. Keegan drove home after ten minutes from twenty yards and just 60 seconds later Noonan headed home from close range to put Crosshaven in cruise control. Jason Fitzgibbon added a third in the second half and although Ringmahon did score it was merely a consolation. The only thing that threatened Crosshaven taking three points was the fading light.
Crofton Celtic 1 Crosshaven 3
Two rockets from Youth player Cian Keegan and a 40 yard chip from Brendan O'Connell gave Crosshaven a deserved 3-1 victory against a fancied Crofton side in Pfizer Park on Saturday. Keegan scored two absolute beauties to make it three goals in three games for him and Beezers chip sent Crosshaven in at the break with the points in the bag. Crofton did pull a goal back in the second period but Crosshaven held firm. The only black spot was that the referee dismissed two Crosshaven players before the final whistle.
UCC 1 Crosshaven Juniors 5
Two goals from Jonathan Mul & an excellent hat trick from Kieran Doran gave the Juniors an excellent 5-1 victory away to UCC tonight at the Mardyke.
Crosshaven U12s 7 Leeds 0
Crosshaven continued their march towards league honours with a comprehensive victory over Leeds in Camden this morning. The homeside were without both Cian Kingston (sick) and Stephen Curran but more than coped with the visitors threat. Fionn Ross and Anthony Wrenne were the star performers claiming all seven goals between them. Fionn with four while Anthony Wrenne bagged yet another hat-trick. The result keeps Crosshaven sitting pretty at the top of the league table and on this showing they will take some stopping. Crosshaven also had excellent performance from Fionn Murphy, Mark Griffin & Michael O'Donovan.
Ringmahon Rangers 1 Crosshaven 2
Crosshaven made it two wins in four days with yet another 2-1 victory this time away to Ringmahon on Saturday afternoon. Once more Robinson Elejade was on target. His form over the past few games has been nothing short of sensational. Jason Fitzgibbon got the other goal and with UCC to come midweek at the Mardyke Crosshaven are edging towards the upper reaches of the table.
Crosshaven U14 Girls 6 Ballinhassig 0
A goal each for Megan O'Keeffe & Savannah Dunlea as well as two a piece for Kathy Reardon & Emily Phelan gave Crosshaven a comfortable victory over Ballinhassig last Saturday.
Crosshaven U14 Boys bowed out of the cup on a 4-2 scoreline, Davy Reardon & Daniel Crowley on target for Crosser.
Passage 1 Crosshaven U12 Boys 4
Goals from Cian Kingston (penalty) and an Anthony Wrenne hat-trick (again) gave Crosshaven an excellent 4-1 away victory against second placed Passage. These two sides drew 2-2 in Camden earlier in the year and both teams until today had not been beaten. Manager's John O'Kelly, Steven Kiely and Eddie Kingston hailed a great team performance despite the obvious pressure going into the game. Well done lads!
Juniors 2 Everton Utd 1
An early kick off saw Crosshaven claim all three points against a fancied Everton side who are riding high in the 1st Division. Goals from Jonathan Mulcahy and the in form Robinson Elejade (6 goals in his last 4 games) gave the lads a deserved victory on a blustery but warm Paddys Day in Camden.
Crosshaven U14 Girls 3 College Corinthians 2
Overall a great victory for Crosshaven with blustery and misty conditions making life very difficult for both teams.Crosshaven were dominant in the first half leading 2-0 with goals from Jessie Bushe and Katy Reardon but that lead came playing with the hurricane like wind. Corinthians had the wind advantage for the second half and made the most of it pulling level with two well taken goals. Emily Phelan played in goal and produced some outstanding saves to keep Crosser in the game. Those saves proved decisive as with just two minutes remaining Megan O'Keeffe broke through on goal before slotting the winner.
Crosshaven had excellent performances from Savanna Dunlea, Roisin McCarthy and Katy Reardon.
Juniors 5 CIT 0
The Junior game Sunday afternoon turned out to be a joke with CIT turning up with just 9 players. Crosshaven tool advantage straight away scoring five unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes. This prompted the CIT management to throw in the towel and the game was called up with Crosshaven taking all three points. Robinson Elejade kept up his recent good form scoring three while Dave Condon & Kenny O'Donovan got one a piece.
U12's 7 Youghal United 5
A massive three points for Crosshaven in Camden as the U12s went from 4-0 up to 4-4 before finally sealing victory to remain top of the table. Without three regular starters Crosshaven were cruising to victory until Youghal produced an outstanding comeback. Crosshaven's scorers were Fionn Murphy, Fionn Ross, Micheal O'Donovan, Anthony Wrenne (2) & Cian Kingston (2).
U14's 3 Buttevant 3
No report from this game yet..............
Crosshaven U12 Girls 1 Bandon 6
Crosshaven always knew that a result against top of the table Bandon was always going to be a difficult task however the scoreline doesn't do the home side justice as they gave an excellent account of themselves. Bandon raced into a 2 goal lead before Sinead Harrington pulled one back before half time. Bandon though turned on the style for the second half adding four more goals. Eva O'Callaghan, Anna Reardon, Aoife Bland & Katie Connolly were super for Crosshaven on the day.
Crosshaven U13s 2 Springfield Ramblers 3
Goals from Cian Kingston and David O'Leary weren't enough to save Crosshaven in Sunday mornings clash with Ramblers in Camden. A cracking game in front of a big crowd saw all three points go to the Cobh side.
Juniors 2 Brooklodge Utd 3
Robinson Elejade fired Crosshaven into a 2-0 lead which held till half time. Crosshaven were without the suspended pairing of Paddy O'Keeffe & Jonathan Mulcahy but the early signs were good as the home side controlled the game. Maybe complacency set in because in the second half the game was turned on its head. Alan Moorland missed a glorious chance to extend the lead before the visitors pulled one back. Crosshaven then had a stone wall penalty turned down before two late goals sent all three points back to Glanmire.
Crosshaven U9's 2 Springfield Ramblers 0
Good win for the U9's (as predicted by one of them during the week although I that person suggested 6-0) away in Cobh last Sunday. Evan O'Hea got the two goals while Johnny Durcan in the Crosshaven goal had a blinder - meanwhile Greg, Harry, Adam & Fergal all played very well. Manager on the day Steve Kiely praised the team for a great performance. Well done to all.
Crosshaven Juniors 0 Avondale Utd 1
Crosshaven pulled the toughest draw possible in this years Super Cup when they faced Premier Division side Avondale in Camden. The homeside got off to the worst possible start conceding after just two minutes when Willie O'Keeffe converted a corner kick. The remainder of the game was a tremendous battle with both sides attacking at every opportunity. Luke Noonan missed a glorious chance to equalise before half time when he volleyed Leon O'Connors left wing cross just wide of the post. The second period saw Crosshaven dominate for long spells with the Avondale keeper the busier saving well from a Brendan O'Connell shot while also smothering a drive from Robinson Elejade. The save of the match came at the other end when Craig Noonan pulled off an incredible reflex save to keep Crosshaven in the game (its a pity the Echo photographer missed it!). Crosshaven were reduced to ten men for the remaining twenty minutes when Paddy O'Keeffe was red carded but still put in a good showing until the final whistle.
Friendly U12 - Crosshaven 5 Carrigaline 3
Sunday mornings friendly saw neighbours Crosshaven & Carrigaline produce 8 goals between them. Cian Kingston scored 2 & Anthony Wrenne came off the bench to score a hat-trick. Anthony later went to the Cork trials were by all accounts he gave a good showing. Mark Griffin played just one half of the game as he was also at trials with the Cork U11 side that evening.
15th Feb 2009 -
Crosshaven had 5 teams in action today - the U11s won 2-1 with a penalty from Donnacha Desmond in extra time - the U13s were beaten 2-1 in the Cup by Premier side Wilton after extra time - the U15s went down 3-1 while the U10s had a great 2-0 victory in Camden on Sunday afternoon.
The Juniors mixed season continued when they went down to second placed College Corinthians on a 2-0 scoreline.
Crosshaven 3 Passage 1 - Feb 14th 2009
After a long wait for a game due to the recent poor weather the U12 Girls finally got a run out at home to Passage. Manager Maria O'Keeffe described the result as "a great team performance". An early goal from Rachel Shorey set Crosser on their way but it was the backline that really excelled making sure that everything Passage had to offer was dealt with. Shorey made it two nil midway through the first half but Passage pulled one back before the interval with a well taken goal from Laura Byrne to set up a nervy second period. During the 2nd half Passage threw everything at Crosshaven but the defence held tough and when they couldn't stop Passage keeper Aoibhinn Kidney did the business. Ciara O'Keeffe sealed victory for Crosser with a breakaway goal to seal the three points. Emmy Hartnett & Laura Hallissey both played well for Passage while for Crosser Anna Reardon, Mallie Cronin, Katie Connolly stood out.
Both teams had to suffer inthe cold in this game when the referee arrived 35 minutes late for kick-off. It was Crosshaven who eventually started the better when Savanna Dunlea fired the home team ahead. Moments later that goal was wiped out when Claire Shine scored direct from a free kick. The remaining four goals came in the second half when Shine added two more for Douglas while Chelsea Noonan & Laura Cooney got one each. Despite the deafeat Crosshaven had some great performances from Savanna Dunlea, Rachel Long & Roisin McCarthy. Mananger Marie O'Keeffe said after the game that "the difference between the two sides was that Douglas took their chances".
Sunday 11th Jan 2009
Of the 3 Crosshaven teams playing this weekend it was the U12s who produced the best display in an excellent 4-0 victory over Inishvilla in Camden. Anthony Wrenne scored twice, Cian Kingston and the electric Michael O'Donovan with the other goals which keep Crosshaven sitting pretty at the top of their Division.
The Juniors came from 4-1 down at home to Crofton Celtic in Camden on Saturday to 4-4 but were caught at the end by a sucker punch to go down 5-4. Manager Buzz O'Connell knows that to score 4 goals at home and still lose is something that will have to be rectified if the lads are to push for promotion. Paddy O'Brien, Paddy O'Keeffe (2) and Graham Foley were the scorers.
The U14s meanwhile were also very unlucky to be beaten by Passage. The 1-0 scoreline was not a fair reflection of the gaem and Crosshaven were left to rue a hatful of missed chances.
With three teams in action this weekend hopes were high that at least one side would record Crosshaven AFC's first victory of 2009 but it wasn't to be.
The Juniors away to Fermoy on Saturday went down 2-1 having played the majority of the game with ten men. The U11s who had been flying must have enjoyed a bit too much Turkey over the Christmas period but they failed to spark at home to Corithians going down on a 4-1 scoreline. Donnacha Desmond scoring the only goal of the game. Martin Condon & Mark Griffin both had great games.
Likewise the U13s, once again missing loads of players, failed to get out of the traps at home to Killnadrish. Beaten on a 1-0 scoreline Crosshaven rode their luck on many occassions during the game and could have lost by a greater margin except for a great display from Kieran Sheehan in goal. The team lost Colin Curran who had been very steady to injury early on while Jamie Byrne and Neil Murphy also played well.
Crosshaven U12 side remain top of their Division when they hammered Avondale 7-0 in front of the Cork manager this morning. Anthony Wrenne scored 5 while Cian Kingston & Mark Griffin got one each as the lads cruised to victory in a great team performance. Both Anthony Wrenne & Cian Kingston have Cork Trials on Tuesday and everyone involved with Crosshaven AFC wishes them well.
Meanwhile in Deerpark the U14s defeated 8 men Evergreen and the referee who was eager to even things up 7-4.
John O'Donovans U11 side continued their good form with a 2-0 away victory against Inishvilla. This result moves the team up to second place in the league. Goals from Louis O'Shea and Fionn Murphy gave the lads all 3pts.
Meanwhile the U13s long trip to Buttevant proved fruitless going down on a 2-0 scoreline. Crosshaven were without a few players and this did have a major impact on the game. Lakewoods goals both came against the run of play and from set pieces (penalty & free kick) while Megan O'Keeffe scored Crosshaven's consolation. Crosshaven threw everything but the kitchen sink at Lakewood but just couldn't force the equaliser. Best on the day for Crosser were Rachel Long, Anna O'Callaghan & Gillian Crowley. Managers Owen Dunlea & Marie O'Keeffe would like to wish all the girls a Happy Christmas.
The U14 girls were away to Lakewood and can count themselves very unlucky to go down on a 1-2 scoreline.
The U15s fell two goals behind early in the game against table toppers Temple Utd on Sunday morning in Camden, Tomas O'Donovan pulled a goal back early in the second half but Crosser couldn't force an equaliser. Final score 1-2.
The Juniors meanwhile haven't got a fixture this side of the New Year so they arranged a friendly against Premier Divison Avondale. The game showed just how far Crosshaven have come in the past two weeks as they secured a 2-2 draw. Paddy O'Brien scored his first goal for the club while Andrew Crowley got the other one.
Crosshaven teams enjoyed one of their best weekends of the season with all of our teams gaining at least a point from their respective fixtures. First of all of all the Juniors had a great 5-3 victory away to Cobh Wanderers, their 3rd straight victory. Brendan O'Connell (2) was once again the star performer and he was joined on the scoresheet by the returning Luke Noonan, Alan Moreland and Colombian International Robinson Elejade. Despite Crosshaven's dominance manager Buzz O'Connell was worried that the team are still leaking soft goals.
The U14 side played out a rare 0-0 draw in Camden with Lakewood while the U12s continued their recent excellent form with a 3-0 victory over Riverstown on a bitterly cold morning. Anthony Wrenne was again the hero scoring yet another hat-trick much to his managers delight. This victory puts Crosshaven three points clear at the top of the table although Passage do have a game in hand. Could another League title be heading the Crosser? Manager John O'Kelly (below) certainly hopes so!

Crosshaven came from behind twice in freezing conditions in Camden this morning to snatch a last gasp draw with Mallow.
One down early in the game, James Meade drew Crosshaven level with an absolute rocket. Mallow fought back to take a 2-1 lead and looked to be holding out until Davy Reardon broke their hearts with just three minutes on the clock to share the spoils. Crosshaevn also had excellent performances from Jordan Murphy & James Griffin who despite the conditions ran themselves into the ground.
Great game today even though Ballinhassig only had 9 players. They fought wel and went a goal up before half time when Laura Dyson ran onto a save made by Crosshavens keeper and hit home a great goal. Crosshaven had a good few chances but Ballinhassigs defence were in super form. Early in the 2nd half Megan o Keeffe equalised from an excellent pass in from Rachel Long and Crosshaven finally started to look a bit brighter. Rachel Long herself got the 2nd goal for Crosser with a great solo run from just inside the half way line. Megan O'Keeffe made it 3-1 with about 10mins 2 go and Crosser held on to take what was a very entertaining game. Ballinhassig had two players today making their debut and did themselves proud they were Laura O'Sullivan and Claire Christopher. Ciara O'Leary, Ashling Lee and Emma O'Donovan were all outstanding for Ballinhassig and Rachel Long, Jessie Bushe and Louise Mills were superb for Crosshaven.
